Silent Observer

November 24 - December 23

A short story, drawings, and illustrations.

Marc Martin takes flight to Lamington Drive for his first solo exhibition on Thursday, November 24th. Entitled ‘Silent Observer’, the exhibition coincides with the release of his new book Silent Observer (Erm books, 2011), a short story musing on the relationship between humans, animals, and the built environment.

Set to the backdrop of a hand-drawn cityscape enveloping the gallery walls, the exhibition features a series of limited edition, hand signed prints from the book, as well as animals from his Curious Explorers Illustrated Pocket Companion to Exotic Animals A–Z (2011) book, and various illustrations completed throughout the year.

Working with watercolour, textas, ink, pencil, scanned textures and computer, Marc draws inspiration from his surroundings, nature, animals, and the city he lives in. Having formally trained as a graphic designer, Marc spends his time co-running design studio Lanz+Martin, and illustrates for various clients on a commission basis. His previous books are A Forest (2008) and The Curious Explorers Illustrated Pocket Companion to Exotic Animals A–Z (2011).
