Clemens Habicht

18 September — 10 October 2009

An illustrative exercise in restrictions and limitations – Clemens set himself the task of 100 collaged kites of birds. Each is an individual discovery and all have the inherent potential of flight and movement. Accompanying the original pieces is a video piece of the kites in flight over Paris.

An illustrator, graphic designer and film director based in Paris but originally from Sydney, Clemens has directed music videos for bands such as the Friendly Fires, as well as the video score for UK band Clinic’s recent tour ‘Planetarium of the Soul’.

Using cut paper, ink and gouache his illustrations and music videos have appeared in Creative Review Magazine, The Bulletin, Antenna Music Video Showcase, and the Edinburgh Film festival.

He is inspired by Roman Signer, Rodin drawings, flea markets, Chermayeff collages, birds, books and music. In his spare time he likes to build push bikes and kites and fish for squid. 100 Kites is his first solo show.
